Chandigarh: Bail application of dismissed SI Phogat rejected

The District Court in Chandigarh has denied anticipatory bail to sub-inspector Naveen Phogat, who is currently on the run in connection with a robbery case involving a sum of Rs 1.01 crore. Phogat had filed the bail application in an attempt to avoid arrest, but the court rejected his plea. He has been absconding for approximately a month, and the police had registered a case against him last month.
In addition to Phogat, two constables who are also implicated in the case have already been arrested. The incident revolves around a Bathinda businessman named Sanjay Goyal, who accused Phogat of extortion. Goyal had been traveling to Chandigarh with his driver, carrying one crore rupees, when the police allegedly looted the money from them. At the time of the incident, Phogat held the position of Additional SHO in the Sector-39 police station. However, he went into hiding following the incident and was subsequently dismissed from the force.
